Don't look back

[linkstandalone]

I've had a few bible verses running through my head lately.

Luke 9:62
And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Genesis 19
24 the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

And I think I've found a necessary ingredient of real faith. Not looking back.

You see, if you're still looking back towards your old life, you're not really believing that God's plan is good. You still think you're missing out on something, your music, your friends, your movies, your drugs (that includes not only 'hard drugs' like crack or LSD, but also one omnipresent drug: pornography).

But, especially in the case of drugs, you know that you're not missing anything. You already hate them. You hated them before. Still you're looking back.

Now, real faith lets go. Can you have real faith by yourself? I don't think so. I think you need God's grace for that. I might be wrong, though. I'm just learning these things myself. However, ask God to give you faith. That cannot be wrong. You see, the father of the demon-possessed boy in Mark 9 said "Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief", and Jesus helped him.
